Actually, it is not that. It is June… half the year is gone and we haven’t taken a vacation yet. This has never happened before. This is how our vacation schedule looks like every year:
– One major trip. Last year it was Kashmir
– A few smaller trips. Bharatpur, Shimla etc etc
– Goa trip. Non-negotiable. Even if we are broke we have to go to Goa. Diwali is our favourite time to visit because it is not crowded and we don’t celebrate festivals. The 2nd best time is monsoon
What have we done this year? Nothing. Zilch.
Sure, a trip abroad is expensive and we are neither backpackers, super low budget travellers nor luxury tourists. The money does burn a hole in our pocket. But this means letting go of sooooooo many other trips. Just the thought depresses me.
So to make myself feel better, I am listing out all the destinations I want to visit. Nope, don’t expect exotic international destinations. I prefer domestic travel for the simple reason that last minute planning is possible. I don’t understand how people don’t explore their own city or even what’s around them but travel to Paris to see TV towers.
I loved Kashmir. Everything that has been written about it is true. It is paradise on earth. The tulips at Srinagar, the snow at Gulmarg, the amazing valleys of Aru and Betaab, the serene Dal lake make monotonous, everyday life bearable. I would like to visit Kashmir every year… in every season possible.
We went for our honeymoon (I find this word quite funny now) to Munnar. The bookings were done only for Munnar, we had planned to book hotels and transport to the backwaters once we reached Kerala. One look at Munnar and we abandoned all other plans. We stayed put at Club Mahindra throughout and visited Thekaddy during the day. That’s when we realized it possible to trek in the Periyar sanctuary and even stay in the middle of the forest. It has been on the to-do list for a while now. I think it is time to visit Kerala again.
Another destination which has been pending for a while. Sigh. I have to … have to… have to… make a trip to this place.
I visited with my parents when I was in 9th std and fell in love with the dessert. There is something so calm about the dessert… even better than the sea or the mountains. We have been trying to plan a trip for 2 years now but it is quite far from Delhi. There is no airport and the train takes 18 hrs. Oh well, even train journeys have their charm. This winter, Jaiselmer it is.
5) Kaziranga National Park
Few months back someone asked me on WhatsApp about my dream destination. I couldn’t think of any other place but Kaziranga. It is only when he said he wants to go backpacking through Europe, I realized how lame I sounded. Don’t ask me why. I just want to see a rhino.
6) Mcleodganj Dharamshala
Someone has not been forgiven for not making the hotel bookings in advance last year. Need to visit in August.
I can go here every year.
This is what the balance year schedule looks like:
– August : Mcleodganj Dharamshala
– August : Mumbai because Rakshabandhan and bro will be there
*Rakshabandhan is the only festival I sorta celebrate because my mother would be after our lives for it. Now this is just an opportunity for me to meet bro once every year no matter how far apart we are*
– September : Shimla- for the half marathon
– November : Goa for Diwali
– December or January 2016 : Jaiselmer
– Big trip : Kaziranga National Park or Coorg or trekking at Thekkady or back to Kashmir
– Smaller trips : Rishikesh, Manali etc.
*KC is not going to be happy about this. He wants to visit Manali this year*
– Goa trip
Oh wait, I still need to find time for a trek to the Himalayas. And next international trip kahan hoga?
Damn it!!! One life is not enough.
